Pepper
"This is Pepper at the Lewis’ new property on Friday morning where she trotted around happily with her frisbee (and her gridiron shoulder pads). She had been wearing her fashionable gear for the last couple of months to protect her shoulders as she had terrible pressure sores. The cancer, diagnosed just before Christmas, had spread and she was starting to endure severe episodes of pain despite heavy duty pain relief.
We decided to let her go – happy, though, we were able to release her when she had had a lovely last day.
Our house seems empty and we are all so sad……. "
Owning Pepper was a revelation for the Lewis family. They were used to having English Setters and an irish setter lass dubbed a ‘wild child’ and a ‘rebel’ by the breeder was a real eye opener – and nothing at all like an English Setter!
However, in a caring and nurturing home Pepper blossomed into a wonderful and much loved obedience and agility dog.
Over the years we’ve heard many Pepper stories – I can still recall the irish setter on the roof story – and I am sure, too, her impressive performances in the obedience ring will be cherished memories for Anne and her family.
Sleep peacefully, Pepper…
