Ch Shamrock Glen (Jimmy) (circa 1940s)
"Jimmy" has an interesting story which I am assisting in researching.
It begins with an email I received from John Deknatel, who resides in Ottawa, Canada.
His father Johannes (Joop), while in his 20’s, was serving in the Dutch NEI Air Force during the war and was based near Darwin, here in Australia in the Northern Territory. Apparently, he became interested in duck hunting when he was on a war ship fighting the Japanese off Australia’s coastline around 1942. Realising that shooting a moving object required a completely different skill, he went looking for a dog to go hunting with – and discovered irish setters. That in turn developed into an interest in breeding and showing irish setters.
Needless to say, John contacted me to find out more information regarding his father’s dog "Jimmy" who is believed to have been born in Australia.
John was able to locate photographs of Ch Shamrock Glen (Jimmy) which you will see below.
