Arabella arrived with attitude and a sense of self-entitlement which was reinforced by our vet who called Arabella “Princess” having been allowed the run of the surgery on her many visits and the one stay in hospital due to a self-inflicted injury a few days after we got her.

It came as somewhat of a shock to Arabella to discover she was actually last in a pecking order of 4 and had to share, once she finally settled in at home. Now as a one-dog household her dreams have finally been realised with all the attention focused on her.

Once she overcame her puppy injury she was shown to her Australian Championship title obtaining some nice In-Group & In-Show wins along the way. However, she didn’t enjoy showing – her heart wasn’t in it, plus she was a “challenging” dog to handle – so by mutual agreement she was retired 3 1/2 years ago.

Her days are now spent happily lounging on the couch or in a chair (floors are for walking on), sleeping, running laps around the backyard at full speed and chasing the ball… It’s a tough life!

All in all, she’s a very happy girl these days and as the saying goes -“living the life”.

∴ It is strange for us to have only one Irish Setter here at Clonmany Irish Setters – the last occasion we were a one-dog household was almost 44 years ago.
