The Endurance Test (ET) is a 20 km run covered in three legs 8 kms, 6 kms, & 6 kms, where the handler may either run or ride a bicycle with dog alongside.  The distance is to be completed in 2 hours & 35 minutes, including two breaks, ie. the test is to be conducted at an average of 10 kms per hour

ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW

Keith Anderson (Eirean Irish Setters) has improved after his lung transplant of a few weeks ago – he is now breathing using his new lungs – however, it is a case of three steps forward, two back at this stage.  After being released from Intensive Care Unit at the Alfred Hospital after more than a month, he was readmitted because of a lung infection.  Hopefully, he will continue to fight the good fight and begin his long and arduous recuperation very soon.

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with him and Di.

ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW

SICK LIST:

After  Keith Anderson’s (Eirean Irish Setters) lung transplant a couple of weeks ago, we can report that he is still in ICU at the Alfred Hospital here in Melbourne and now out of induced coma.  The lungs were working well but now a hiccup – he’s got a collapsed lung leaking fluid and air, So they’ve put the chest drain back in and upped the respirator for a while. It’s just delaying getting him out of the ICU, probably by another two weeks.
Still can’t talk due to the trachy; still not able to lift his hands to write.  He’s very frustrated.

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with him and Di who has organised for updates on her Facebook page for all the the kind and concerned friends.

Pat Whitburn (my mother) has recently had breast cancer surgery and is about to embark on a long radiotherapy treatment.  We’d appreciate positive thoughts for her outcome.   Good luck mum.

Diva was loved and will be sadly missed by Roy Babbington & family, Sally (Ornac Irish Setters) and Lynton (Notnyl Irish Setters) and is now running free at the bridge with Kelly, Margaret, Brazen and Reno.

Kian (key-arn) thought he was an English Springer Spaniel as he was brought up with them, loving life as only an Irish setter does barking at birds, neighbours, neighbours’ cats and people walking their dogs past our property.

He loved visiting my friend on acreage out near Toowoomba finding it fun to run the whole twelve acres and swimming in her dam, leaping from the dam wall into the middle of the dam. With absolute glee, he splashed everyone and nearly landed on Jag (ESS).  My partner also learnt that you never turn your back on Kian when playing with him – he would come up from behind and knock you over .. then run away laughing.

In the show ring he always gave me 110%, laughing at me as we gaited around the ring. Always the showman, he held his own in the ring and was always a pleasure to show.. often complete with Irish Setter drool, which I’m going to miss all over my show clothes!

He had the most gentle temperament always loving a cuddle or just leaning on me when out in the yard together. Kian always had something to say. He loved to drape over the end of the bed, sometimes sliding off through the night – hearing the familiar thud in the middle of the night, I just knew what had happened.

On the 15 December 2010 he made me make the decision all dog owners dread and hope they never have to make.   Due to illness,  he just couldn’t take it anymore…… I couldn’t let him go on like this anymore.  So I said my goodbyes taking some of his feathering. I was with him till the end.
